The San Jose Steamrollers’ return to the pitch in September 2025 started off with two familiar faces joining the roster once again: former Team USA athlete brothers Omar and Jairo Solorio. It is an opportune, welcome sight for our team as we resolve to rekindle our past dominance from spring 2020 when the renowned brothers last competed in Steamroller jerseys. Their insightful expertise in the game is especially invaluable in restoring our offensive strengths to reclaim the glory as a goal scoring powerhouse plus offering coaching from a player-centric perspective.
While offense remains a challenge, we turned a significant corner in our defensive efforts with current goalkeeper, Lucas Correa, who recently transitioned to the position towards the end of last season. He has embraced the new role with relentless grit to acclimate to the intricate nuances of playing goalie from each live game experience in a short period of time, always open to continue learning more. Lucas’s dynamically quick reactions in anticipation to opponent offensive attacks in a fast-paced game environment served him well in mastering the especially challenging skill of knowing when to hold station in the goal box versus jump out to drive the ball away. Sorting out the defensive end opens up the door to refining our offensive strategies with more flexibility.
As a recap to preview the spring portion of our season commencing with games this Saturday 1/31 at Bascom Community Center (11 AM and 12:15 PM), here is the Steamrollers record out of six games so far: 3 wins, 0 ties, and 3 losses. The wins showcased promising results from our new offensive looks while losses depicted flashes of brilliance between the struggle points that we can build on for a future game day. Tomorrow’s games entail playing two Bay Area juggernauts: the San Jose Flash and the San Francisco-based Golden State Ducks who are the key competitors we must learn to challenge to succeed in steamrolling our opponents at Nationals.
Go TEAM !!!
